Behind The Scenes: Art
Greetings, everyone.
Hello, hi, welcome to the first in our behind the scenes series, where we take you... behind the scenes, to uncover the deep, dark secrets of Club Penguin Legacy, and what better place for me to show you around than the art section, where the team and I continually strive to create the very best artwork we can, from the tiny details you might easily overlook to the grand, eye-catching ones.
What We Do
We put an enormous amount of care into everything, whether it involves designing an entirely new room, creating an interface, or making sure a penguin’s smile doesn't look creepy. Each piece of art goes through sketching, colouring, shading, and multiple revisions.
One of the biggest challenges is staying faithful to the original Club Penguin style while still giving everything a fresh, modern feel. We study old rooms, compare shapes and colours, and spend what many would consider an unreasonable amount of time debating whether a plank ought to lean ever so slightly to the left or the right. It may sound ridiculous, and it often is, but it’s precisely this level of dedication that keeps the world feeling authentic and genuine.
Unused Artwork
Speaking of debating details, not all artwork makes it into the game due to various reasons. I asked mar, one of our wonderfully talented artists, if he had any pieces that never made the cut, and sure enough, he shared the following room that he had made.

Honestly, I really like this room; it has an old-style charm to it, but I can understand why it never made it into the game. It isn't quite the style we are going for. I very professionally asked mar, “What’s with this then?” To which he replied:
“Before it was decided the Lakeside would become a permanent room in the game, I toyed with the idea of making a some sort of Hub area that was based on concept art from the original game. It wasn't used because, much like in the original game, we thought the room didn't have a concrete purpose.” - mar
mar’s explanation perfectly shows that even great ideas sometimes don’t fit the final vision. With that in mind, I’ve dug up a few of my own unused pieces that almost made it into the game.

You may notice the simularities from this room to the Wagon Wheel Entrance from our annual Fair, and that's because this was a early design for that room! We decided to go with the one you see today due to this version being too cluttered and hard to read.
Why We Do It
Ultimately, all this effort serves one purpose: to make the island feel truly alive. When you wander into a room and something captures your attention, like the glow of a light, the texture of the rug, or an unexpected little detail tucked away in the background, that is the magic we strive to create.
We hope you take as much delight in exploring our artwork as we do in bringing it to life.
Goodbye… For now.
