Update June 22, 2023

Before queueing up for your first match in our competitive environment. We ask players to agree to the expectations outlined here. In our Competitive Code of Conduct, we outline and detail our measures to maintain and uphold a strict competitive environment that propels an experience that is fair for everyone. We hope that this helps you calibrate on the conduct for our competitive environment. and we look forward to you starting your journey.

We’ve taken the time to write our Code of Conduct as we believe that sometimes, emotions can get the best of us; especially during a high level of competition, where everything is on the line. However, being in such an emotional state does not excuse anyone from stepping outside the boundaries of gameplay.

Please be aware that this Code of Conduct for competitive environments is supplemental to Club Penguin Legacy’s Terms of Service, which you must agree to before being allowed into any of our games.

Fairness in Every Match

We believe that each game is meaningful, the conditions for each game must be balanced and fair for all players and consistent throughout all the games that you queue into. We believe that fairness means games are free from cheating, misuse of game systems, and all forms of harassment such as AFKing, Queue Dodging, throwing games, win-trading, and more.

We aim to uphold the competitive integrity, and to ensure that all players are treated with respect in our ecosystem. When addressing disruptive behavior, we believe that penalties should reflect the standards and needs of the community, and that they address the specifics of the disruptive behavior rather than being overly punitive.

Competitive Environment

To facilitate optimal gameplay for every player, we must ensure prioritizing the utmost safety, fairness, and autonomy over one's experiences on our platform. We are committed to equipping players with the necessary tools to safeguard themselves and their accounts, and we have faith in their ability to utilize these resources to shape their gaming experiences.

We strongly believe in empowering players with control over their interactions with fellow gamers, while simultaneously offering meaningful alternatives to exercise such control. These options are designed to uphold their capacity to compete and collaborate effectively with their teams. Despite the availability of multiple choices, our objective remains to safeguard every player's freedom to determine how they coordinate with others and to prevent any instances where individuals are coerced or excluded from communication channels due to fear or abuse.

What We Expect

Every player deserves an opportunity to be themselves and play their best. You deserve to be able to play each match free from harassment, hatred, and abuse; so do your opponents. To create a game that lives up to our values above, we need your help. When you play inside our competitive environment, we both ask and expect you to commit to the following:

Play Fair

We expect all players to play the game the way it's intended to be played. This means that you won’t purposely sabotage your own games for the disadvantage of other players. This may include the following, but not limited to:

• “Queue Dodging” to avoid certain aspects of the game such as a player or randomly selected mechanics and selections.
• Going AFK (Away from Keyboard) at any point in a match.
• Purposely forfeiting games by closing your browser tab or exiting the game.
• Using third-party modifications, clients, or tools in an effort to gain a competitive advantage over your opponents.
• “Delay of Game” and purposely running out the game clock.

We expect all players to engage themselves in the healthiest form of competition possible, which includes:

• Stay focused and bring your best self to every match. Everyone has bad games - we understand! But don’t queue if you’re not in it to win.
• Don’t give up on yourself after a few rounds, fight until the very end!
• Never try to sabotage yourself or your opponent or “troll”.

Be Respectful

We ask that you treat others with dignity and respect. Exercise empathy and seek to build trust and a healthy competitive relationship with other players so each of you perform at their very best.

For example, we expect and encourage you to:

• Treat others as they wish to be treated.
• Respect other individual differences and experiences.
• Treat everyone like they can teach you something.
• Never use hateful or abusive language. We do not tolerate derogatory comments on any player’s gender, race, sexual orientation, age, mental or physical abilities, religious affiliations, or country of origin.
• Do not make jokes about people. People aren’t punchlines.
• Threats of any kind are unacceptable. Intent doesn’t matter here, and it’s on you to know your audience if you think it’s “just a joke.”

Protect Your Community

Build the community you want to play in, one match at a time. Use tools and good judgment to protect yourself and your peers, and support others when they need help.

For example, we expect and encourage you to:

• If someone is harassing another player, speak up if you’re able. Take care not to make the situation worse, but sometimes a little support can mean a lot to your competitive peers.
• Help keep games free of cheating or glitch abuse; if you think someone is doing it, report so we can take care of it.
• Don’t call for mass reports or pull opponents into an argument. One report is enough to let us know something’s happening.
• Don’t let someone bring you down to their level. If a player is harassing you, often it's better to disengage than to “fire back.” It takes two to keep a fight going.

Protect Yourself

Help us keep you safe. Be responsible for your account, devices, personal information, and conduct. For example, we expect and encourage you to:

• Use strong passwords and keep your devices secure.
• Let us know as soon as possible if you think your account has been hacked.
• Accounts have a one-person maximum. We expect your account to be sure and not let anyone use it. You may not service your account to your friends or family to play on it, especially in a competitive environment.
• Play responsibly. Practice self care so you can bring your best to every game you play.
• Never run third-party programs and modifications that interfere with gameplay. We expect you to exercise caution and good judgment here.
• Don’t share your personal information with strangers. Also, don’t share or ask for anyone else’s information. We have a zero tolerance policy for doxxing on our platform.
• Do not impersonate anyone. In particular, don’t impersonate Club Penguin Legacy Team members or highly visible players.
Avoid queueing up for one more when you know you’re tilted. Take breaks, and recognize when you’re getting frustrated.

How We Approach Disciplinary Action

In order to preserve the integrity and equilibrium of our competitive environment, we exercise expeditious measures against rule breakers, deploying a combination of meticulous manual oversight and efficient automated systems. Our thought process dictates that prompt action must be taken whenever any violations occur, serving as a testament to our commitment to upholding a fair competitive environment.

Our policy is: repercussions first, ask questions later. This approach epitomizes our dedication to safeguarding the sanctity of our competitive ecosystem and enforcing an unwavering standard of fair play for all. By curbing the influence of throwers, trolls, and those who seek to exploit our competitive framework, we forge an environment of security, ensuring the welfare of every player within our competitive space.

Consequences

If you violate the expectations described, we will restrict your privileges or access to features in our games. Restrictions serve to shield the community from future disruption, and provide an opportunity to reflect on the behavior that led to the restriction. We strive to provide a path to reform, but not at the expense of protecting the rest of the community. We also strive to restrict based on the disruption caused, and to avoid action that is needlessly punitive or harsh.

• Loss of ability to use in-game communication systems.
• Restrictions or additional requirements to access such as Ranked queues.
• Restrictions to standard play of all competitive and non-competitive game.
• Removal of content found to be obtained inappropriately.
• Decreased or removal of in-game experience, or ranked progress.
• Temporary, indefinite, or permanent suspension from Club Penguin Legacy, or competitive gameplay.
